The aim of this project is to develop effective and efficient decision support systems for the diagnosis of postharvest disorders and diseases of apple.
The interdisciplinary project team will work on an adaptive reasoning strategy that considers different sources of evidence like macroscopic symptoms of fruit decay, types of apple or time since harvest as well as processed images from microscopic investigations. Thus, the development of image classification techniques to discriminate fungal spores as well as the development of a formal ontology to capture domain expertise will be scientific results from a Computer Science perspective.
